John Keating said “Seize the day. Because, believe it or not, each and every one of us in this room is one day going to stop breathing, turn cold and die” (Dead Poets Society). Seizing the day and learning to ride a horse can be a scary thing to learn, however it is one of the most influential things you can learn. Stepping outside your comfort zone and taking a chance is an important life lesson to learn even if you are scared.  When on is learning to ride a horse, it often changes the person in important ways. Even those lessons learned in a non-traditional settings can teach many people many important life lessons. Some people may be apprehensive to riding horses because they are afraid of being injured and don’t understand the value of it, however learning to ride a horse can help you build confidence, learn perseverance and hard work.

            When people start ridding they fall off and hit the dirt many times, sometimes with the horse landing on top of them or even stepping on them. This is one of the biggest oppositions to someone learning to ride. When learning to ride people learn to always get back on unless you’re physically unable to. Perseverance helps make sure you keep going in life. Learning to ride takes a lot of balance and leg muscles which, at five you don’t always have. Hitting the dirt can be a daily thing, kids learned to tuck and roll quickly. Always getting back on has taught teaches you to never quit. You have to keep going and preserver not matter what. It shows you that even if life knocks you down you get back up and keep going and try again.

Taking care of horses is a lot of hard work. They are unable to care for themselves and rely on you completely. You have to make sure they eat before you do. When taking care of a horse that weighs 1000 pounds you tend to get frustrated at times. Horses can try to knock you over and step on you to get what they want from your hands. Trying to get a horse to cooperate and work with you and not just do what they want to do is hard at times. As Erin Gurwell said in the move Freedom Writers “But to get respect you have to give it”, even though she was talking about her and the students relationship here it applies to animals as well. Horses though have to depend on people for their needs but, will give you respect if you respect them. This teaches you compassion and hard work.

Caring for another living thing is hard back breaking work, however the relationship you build and the love you get in return is irreplaceable. Hard work can allow kids to have something to work for. Learning reward and punishment early is helpful. Horse do understand and appreciated what the people taking care of them are doing. “You can’t make someone want an education” (Margret Campbell) was said in the move Freedom Writers but giving them something to loose and work for helps motivate them.  Young people can benefit from learning to care form something that cannot care for themselves. Working hard and getting no verbal appreciation can be very rewarding. This love and trust is something every person could learn from. This can make you a very caring and understanding person.

            When learning to ride you have to build an unspoken bond with your horse. They have to trust you completely and you have to trust them completely. It takes a lot to build this bond. You spend hours grooming them, feeding them, caring for them when they are hurt. While doing this you are showing the animal that you are the one that makes them feel good. The trust grows from there. It takes years to understand your horse completely. A horse cannot talk to you so you have to learn to communicate with your legs, the reins and verbal commands. This is something that is different for every horse that you ride. You have to adapt your skills to every horse specifically. Everyone is different and respond to different things. Once you learn how to communicate and have a mutual trust between you and the horse there is nothing you cannot accomplish.

 

When kids are young they are impressionable and influenced easily. Kids that choose to ride are making a choice for responsibility. A lot of other kids that do not ride horses do not understand why they would want to be outside working so hard to take care of a “stinky” animal’s as it is put a lot of times. When you give a kid a horse they have a lot to lose by getting in to trouble or having bad grades. By using the ability to ride horses and compete as motivation to stay out of trouble and get good grades, kids will learn to stay out of trouble. While kids with horses are trying to stay out of trouble and keep their grades up others kids were not. They will simply get grounded, then when that was over they would do it again. These kids with horses will choose to stick with their horses and stay away from bad influences. Having something to work for and strive to accomplish motivates kids and adolescence to make better choices.  

            Learning to ride horse has help shape people into positive members of society. Some people are scared to try, afraid to get hurt and don’t understand what you can learn from it, however those people need to try and see the benefits and life lessons that you can take away from this experience. You never truly stop learning to ride. There are always new techniques to learn or skills to perfect. The people you meet along the way are like nothing you have ever experienced. They are some lifelong friends that could never be replace. Ridding has become an outlet for kids. It allows people to think, to bond and to love without fear of judgment or harshness. Once you start you won’t trade a horses for anything. The hardest part of riding is the ground; this is something that I have been told all my life. I found this to be true in my quest to learn to ride. I started ridding at 5 years old. Mostly I just wanted to be around the horses and the people that go with them. However learning to ride and care for horses has been the most important learning experience that I have ever had. Having horses has taught me many life skills I use every day. Having to trust an animal with your life is a difficult thing to do and learn. Ridding horse has kept me on the right path throughout my childhood and teenage years. They have given me a purpose. I will continue to learn from my horses for the rest of my life.

 

I started ridding when I was five years old. I fell off and hit the dirt many times, sometimes with the horse landing on top of me or stepping on me. My dad always told me if it isn't broke, you’re not bleeding badly or dying you dust yourself off and get back on. Learning to ride takes a lot of balance and leg muscles which, at five you don’t always have. Hitting the dirt was usually a daily thing, I learned to tuck and roll quickly. My horse Sar would always stop and look down at me like she was saying “Again! What are you doing do there!” Always getting back on has taught me to never quit. You have to keep going and preserver not matter what. It has showed me that even if life knocks you down you get back up and keep going and try again.

When taking care of a horse that weighs 1000 pounds you tend to get frustrated at times. I had a pony once that knocked me down to get the food I had in my hand. He stepped all over me before my dad rescued me. That pony didn’t last long at our house! Trying to get a horse to cooperate and work with you and not just do what they want to do is hard at times. This taught me compassion and hard work.

I can go out to see her and if I am having a bad day she knows. She will come and stand next to me and let my cry on her shoulder never moving until I am ready to let go. This has made me a very caring and understanding person; I have taken these skills with me and will continue to in my quest to become a nurse.

Growing up I had friends at school and friends that rode horses. I choose to ride my horse and travel to compete. A lot of my school friends didn’t understand why I wanted to be outside working so hard to take care of a “stinky” animal as they put it. As I grew into my teenage years I had a lot to lose if I got into trouble or didn’t keep my grades up. I would lose being able to ride my horses and compete. If I got in trouble my sisters got to ride my horse and I had to watch them compete, as everyone knows its torture to watch your siblings do something you’re not allowed to do. This was my motivation to stay out of trouble and get good grades. While I was trying to stay out of trouble and keep my grades up my friends were not. They would simply get grounded. Then when that was over they would do it again. I realized that theses “friends” were not the people I needed in my life. I choose to stick with my horses. By the time graduation rolled around I was the only one of my 5 “best friends” throughout school that graduated from high school. I could have chosen a very different path in my life but because of my horses. I think I have done pretty well for myself so far.

 

            Learning to ride horse has shaped me into the person I am today. You never truly stop learning to ride. There are always new techniques to learn or skills to perfect. I know that I will never stop ridding or learning. The people you meet along the way are like nothing you have ever experienced. They are some lifelong friends that I could never replace. Ridding has become my outlet. It allows me to think, to bond and to love without fear of judgment or harshness. I wouldn’t trade my horses for anything. I am thankful that I learned to ride, it shaped me into the person I am today.

What was the experience you had and why was that at least as important as an "in School" experience?
Learning to ride a horse and growing as a person while doing it. It is just as important as a "in School" learning experience because you learn more about yourself and how to have compassion for something that cannot care for itself.
Who is your audience?
Students
Why should they care about this?
They should care because learning to ride a horse teaches you to have such inner strength and to conquer something you never thought possible.
 What will they, their children, or society in general gain or loose?
Once someone learns to ride a horse they learn compassion and feeling for something that cannot care for itself. that kind of compassion and caring allows people to be much more kind to others, therefore allowing people to be a kinder society.
Reasons they should agree?
Reason #1 Because  Allows you to understand how caring for others is an important quality in life
Reason #2 Because It teaches responsibility
Reason #3 Because it allows you to conquer a fear and something you never thought you could do.
Reasons they might not agree?
Reason #1 No, Because Horses are to dangerous
Reason #2 No, Because Horses are do not show love back or appreciation for what you do for them.
Reason #3 No, Because learning to ride a horse cannot impact your life in a bigger way, its not an important skill
Answers to their possible objections"
Because #1 Horses can be dangerous if you don't learn how to properly treat them and you need someone to teach you.
Because #2 Horse are living creatures and show love to the people that care for them. you are able to love them back
Because #3 Learning to ride is a big accomplishment and a lot goes into it.  it can profoundly change your life.

1. When I was five years old and still legally blind, I started school in a sight conservation class in the local public school on 135th street and Lenox Avenue. On the corner was a blue wooden booth where white women gave away free milk to black mothers with children. I used to long for some Hearst Free Milk Fund milk, in one of those cute little bottles with their red and white tops, but my mother never allowed me to have any, because she said it was for charity, which was bad and demeaning, and besides the milk was warm and might make me sick. 

 walking through the store I begged my mom for one of those little candies, wrapped in beautiful paper, My mom said no I could get sick from to much candy.



2. For our mother’s souse*, it didn’t matter what kind of meat was used.  You could have hearts, or beefends, or even chicken backs and gizzards when we were really poor. 

   
It never mattered what kind of fabric was used as long as you looked fabulous. Her clothes were made of cotton, silk and wool.

Compare/Contrast Essay

 

Teaching is a difficult task, regardless if it is in a class room setting. I admire and respect all teaches however, some are better than others. A lot of different factors make a teacher a good teacher or a bad teacher, all students experience both kinds of teachers throughout their time in school. Two teachers that have shown me both sides of the spectrum are Mr. Triplet and Miss M. Mr. Triplet taught math and was able to make it one of my favorite subjects. Miss. M taught English, she made it hard to want to be there. My English professor was a very smart women however, was not able to teach a class well, I hated going to class. My math professor on the other hand was amazing, I looked forward to going to his class every day. The differences between these two teachers are what make the difference in someone’s educational experience. There are a few similarities between the professors, but their differences in their passion, control of the class and teaching for all levels of knowledge are far more important.  

                Having passion for the job you are doing is a very important part of any job. A teacher needs to show up every day and have a deep passion for what they are doing. Mr. Triplet would come in every day excited to teach and full of excitement. He would take the time to engage every student one by one. He would ask questions to each student not just one person, if you didn’t know he would walk you through it.  You could tell that he wanted to be there teaching us every day and not leave anyone behind. Students could tell that teaching is what he wanted to do with his life. On the other hand Miss. M. would come in and give handout’s out and go to her desk. She would answer emails, paying no attention to the class -- often the whole classroom period. She would often want to talk about her day not about English or the papers we were writing at the time. Instead of engaging the entire class she would have discussions with a handful of students, usually the ones that were being loud and off topic.  As a teacher you have to want to be in class, that’s why teachers have to be passionate. Being passionate about what you do makes the students want to be there and learning from you.  There is no doubt that being a teacher is one of the most difficult professions but done by someone who really wants to teach, it can be a wonderful thing.

                Being up in front of a class is a nerve racking experience, that’s a teachers spot though and it automatically gives them a certain amount of respect. Losing that respect can happen quickly. While up there or just around in the class room, the teacher must be able to control the class. Mr. Triplet would control the class with a combination of humor and embarrassment. He would call people out if they were texting so everyone in the class would stop and look at them. After having that happen to you a few times you stop doing it and pay attention, this is how Mr. Triplet controlled his class. He did not allow the loudest students to take away from everyone else’s learning experience, He made sure that it was understood that that was unacceptable.  Miss M. would have discussions in class but there was never any structure in them. She would allow the students to split of into side talks and then give up on the discussion all together. She would allow the loudest students to direct the discussion of topic on to whatever they wanted to talk about and not about English, This makes it hard to follow anything or learn. Students that did not understand or struggled with English often fell behind and did not know where to go for help. With no direction in the class it very difficult to learn anything, especially if you were not a strong student. Having control of the class room is very important but can be hard to do. Teachers must figure out how to control the class in order to have a successful class and engage a full classroom with a variety of students.  

                Teachers end up with a whole variety of students in their classroom. It is very important that teachers teach to all levels of students so that they can understand the material being presented to them. Mr. Triplet would explain math problems multiple ways so everyone would be able to understand it. He would take the time to make sure everyone was getting it and keeping up, this is very helpful. He also would use group exercise and competitions to see who would finish first, this motivated students understand the problems so they could work faster. He also made himself available to help all the time. No students felt like they were being left behind. Miss. M. would come in to class, assign a writing assignment and that was it. Students just had to use to rubric to figure it out and go from there. This caused many students to not understand and struggle in the class. Even when questions were asked the topic got changed so quickly and the question was brushed over. Being able to engage students at levels of knowledge is another one of the most important skills a teacher could possess.

            Though Mr. Triplet and Miss. M have many differences in terms of passion, control of the class and teaching every level of students both are similar in that they both would help after class, use online aides to assist in class and that they both were on time every day. Using online supplemental aides along with class room curriculum is extremely helpful for students to reinforce lessons from the classroom.  Being on time and staying after to help allows students to seek help if they need it. Teachers are the reasons why class can be good and bad. Math is one of my worst subjects because of dyslexia and my professor was able to engage me and teach how I understood. Mr. Triplet was able to make it where I looked forward to going to class every day. English is easier to me however, my professor made me not want to be there. The class room was always chaotic and disorganized.  It’s all in the difference in who is teaching not so much what they are teaching. You’re learning experience will be an unforgettable one, weather it is good or bad depends on the teacher. A good teacher can make any subject your favorite subject.

These pages help show how to properly outline a paper and get your point across. I have been using them to help me with my transitions in my essay #2. It has been very helpful. It talks about using an outline to help get your paper starter. This is something that I already do however this has been helpful in giving me direction in the compare and contrast essay. Even though I am still working on my paper I have found it hard to organize because there is a lot being talk about in this paper. I have been using an outline and the circles like we talked about in class. I will complete my paper soon and these selections have been helpful to do it.

How are Mr. Keating and Mrs. Gurwell Different? Simillar?

 Mr. Keating is teaching at a private wealthy school with unlimited resources. Mrs. Gurwell teaches at a integrated school with very poor students and very few resources.

Mr.. Keating and Mrs. Gurwell are fighting the school. Mrs. Gurwell is told that the students cant understand books like Shakespeare. Mr. Keating is told that the students cannot think for themselves

Mr.. Keating and Mrs. Gurwell both have no support from the other staff and upper management.

Mr.. Keating and Mrs. Gurwell made great sacrifices to teach how they thought they should be teaching.

Mrs. Gurwell has to earn the respect of her students because the school has never cared about them, so the students don't trust her at all

       Teaching is a difficult task especially in a class room setting. I admire and respect all teaches however some are better then others. Just last Semester i experienced the difference in a good teacher and a bad teacher. My English professor was a very smart women however was not able to teach a class well. i hated going to class, it was a waste of time. My math professor on the other hand was amazing. I looked forward to going to his class everyday. The differences between them are what made the difference in the educational experience. There are a few similarities between the professors , the differences are far more important.

        A teacher needs to be passionate and want to be there. Mr. Triplet was confident and passionate. everyday he came in to class excited and ready to teach us. Miss. M came into class second guessing herself. She showed that she didn't want to be there as much as some of the class didn't. When a teacher dose not want to be in class it makes the students not want to be in class.
        In order to be a good teacher you need to be able to engage all the students no matter what there level of knowledge. Mr. Triplet would explain the same thing several different ways and make sure everyone under stood before moving on. This made everyone feel like he was invested in ALL of us not just there to get a pay check. Miss. M Just handed out rubric's and told us to write. She then would answer e-mails, leaving us to figure it out among ourselves. She was only teaching towards the people that already had good writing abilities. Being a teacher you must be able to command the entire room and help everyone equally.
       When a teaching the teacher must have control of the class, this is important for being able to focus and concentrate. Mr. Triplet always had control. He would make it funny to point out people that were distracting. He was using embarrassment to get people to focus and not be distractions. Miss. M. let everyone do whatever they wanted. She would let the discussions drift to things that were not important to English. This made class hard to focus on and learn. It is important for professors to command the classroom and keep it on topic

Questions about Movies

How are the two schools different?
             The two schools are different because Mr. Keating's school is very strict and wants everyone to get an education and educating everyone is the most important part. Also there are only white kids and teachers there. Mrs. Gurwell's school only wants to educated the white kids that are in the advanced class. they don't care if what the other class dose as long as it does not involve causing trouble. Also there are expectations at the schools are different. At Mr.. Keating's school, The kids are expected to do well failure is not an option. Where Mrs. Gurwell's kids are expected to fail.

How are the two teaches different? How are they similar?
              Mr. Keating and Mrs. Gurwell both are passionate about teaching. they want there students to do well. They care about the kids as people not just as chair fillers in there classroom. They are both going against the grain in there schools, fighting the system. They are very different though. Mr. Keating likes to shock his students by having them do things that they aren't normally allowed to do or asked to do. He wants them to be free thinkers and that is not allowed in there school. Mrs. Gurwell is being shocked by her students.  There stories and what they have been through is so much and hard for her to handle.

Have you had a teacher like Mrs. Gurwell or Mr. Keating? In which ways were they similar and or different? 
               I have had a teacher like Mr. Keating. My math teacher Mr. Triplett last quarter. He was passionate and shocking at times. He was like Mr. Keating because he gave all of us a new way of looking at things. He taught Math 99. He would engage all of us and when we weren't getting it he would shock us with something. he was different because he wasn't battling the school. he is allowed to do it how he pleases.

Teaching is a difficult task especially in a class room setting. I admire and respect all teaches however some are better then others. Just last Semester i experienced the difference in a good teacher and a bad teacher. My English professor was a very smart women however was not able to teach a class well. i hated going to class, it was a waste of time. My math professor on the other hand was amazing. I looked forward to going to his class everyday. The differences between them are what made the difference in the educational experience.

Math Professor

1.  confidence and passion
2. teaching for all learning abilities and levels of knowledge
3. commanding to the class room can bond with all the students
4. made learning fun and exciting

English professor

1. let students rule class
2. easily distracted
3. no new knowledge on subject's
4. no direction in class room and chaotic at times

theses are some of the reason's why class was good and bad depending on the teacher. Math is one of my worst subjects because of dyslexia and my professor was able to engage me and teach how I understood. I looked forward to going to class. English is easier to me however, my professor made me not want to be there. its all in the difference in who is teaching not so much what they are teaching. A good teacher can make any subject your favorite subject

Erin seems to be the only teacher that hasn't given up on the students before they have even gotten a chance. She has passion and a drive to engage the students into learning. She see that the system has let them down and is trying to give them a reason to try and want to learn again

What I think makes a good teacher?

I think a good teacher is passionate. If the teacher wants to be there everyday it makes a huge difference, and you can definitely tell if they want to be there. A good teacher commands your attention. even if its a subject that isn't that interesting and you don't want to be there they can draw you in and make you want to learn. They can do that with humor or just breaking up the boring stuff with "cool" or interesting facts or things to do. HAVE FUN. if you can do creative activities and make the students laugh it will make a huge differences to your students. I have the best classes when the professor are approachable. I am not against a stern teacher but you have to be able to approach them and ask questions and get help if you need it or feel like your falling behind.

Audre Lorde's Essay

Audre Lorde illustrates what her teachers are like very vividly. She describes the librarian with kindness and admiration. Where as she describes the sister as mean and grumpy. she says "I don't know if she hated teaching or just small children" The Librarian was a great first teacher. she was kind and gentle in her approach. The kindergarten teacher she described as "grumpy and angry" She wanted the students to do exactly what she said and when Audre did more then she asked she made her feel ashamed and 'bad for doing something smart and showed that she know more. The 1st grade teacher did the same thing. By using the Fairies and the Brownies it defined the students as bad or good and made them feel bad about themselves. She had a great first experience in the librarian and if not for that first experience she would not have had the passion for learning that she developed if she didn't meet her and just went to the class first.

My thoughts about school killing creativity is yes it dose. It encourages it till maybe the 3rd grade but after that no. As a student you may have one or two art or music classes a week after 3rd grade and that is it. it becomes all about spelling and math and English. I think it should be encouraged more. Encouraging art and music builds creativity. this is something the world needs more of. Schools focus so much on what kids need for the future and in reality we don't know what the future will look like or what they will need. Every student should be allowed to do what they want with in reason. This would allow for everyone to pick there own path and discover ones true self. Schools aren't totally meaning to squish creativity but they don't have the funds. I think more money need to be invested in schools and education then we down now. Its our country's future that is having funding cut and everyone is going to suffer in the long run.

What is the main point of the narrative you just wrote?

The main point of my narrative that we just wrote was sharing how I learned to ride a horse, how it changed me and shaped me into who I am today. I want it to show that ridding has shaped me in to the person I am today. Even though it hasn't been a traditional setting of learning it has taught me many life lessons.,

The hardest part of riding is the ground; this is something that I have been told all my life. I found this to be true in my quest to learn to ride. I started ridding at 5 years old. Mostly I just wanted to be around the horses and the people that go with them. However learning to ride and care for horses has been the most important learning experience that I have ever had. Having horses has taught me many life skills I use every day. Having to trust an animal with your life is a difficult thing to do and learn. Ridding horse has kept me on the right path throughout my childhood and teenage years. They have given me a purpose. I will continue to learn from my horses for the rest of my life.

 

When started ridding when I was five years old, I fell off and hit the dirt many times, sometimes with the horse landing on top of me or stepping on me. My dad always told me if it isn't broke, you’re not bleeding badly or dying you dust yourself off and get back on. Learning to ride takes a lot of balance and leg muscles which, at five you don’t always have. So hitting the dirt was usually a daily thing, I learned to tuck and roll quickly. My horse Sar would always stop and look down at me like she was saying “Again! What are you doing do there!” Always getting back on has taught me to never quit. You have to keep going and preserver not matter what. It has showed me that even if life knocks you down you get back up and keep going and try again.

 

Taking care of horses is a lot of hard work. They are unable to care for themselves and rely on you completely. I always had to feed them before I ate. That was the rule in our house. When taking care of a horse that weighs 1000 pounds you tend to get frustrated at times. I had a pony once that knocked me down to get the food I had in my hand. He stepped all over me before my dad rescued me. That pony didn’t last long at our house! Trying to get a horse to cooperate and work with you and not just do what they want to do is hard at times. This taught me compassion and hard work.

Caring for another living thing is hard back breaking work at times however the relationship you build and the love you get in return is irreplaceable. My horse now Reba, I swear knows what I am thinking. I can go out to see her and if I am having a bad day she knows. She will come and stand next to me and let my cry on her shoulder never moving until I am ready to let go. This love and trust is something every person could learn from. This has made me a very caring and understanding person; I have taken these skills with me and will continue to in my quest to become a nurse.

 

When learning to ride you have to build an unspoken bond with your horse. They have to trust you completely and you have to trust them completely. It takes a lot to build this bond. You spend hours grooming them, feeding them, caring for them when they are hurt. While doing this you are showing the animal that you are the one that makes them feel good. The trust grows from there. It takes years to understand your horse completely. A horse cannot talk to you so you have to learn to communicate with your legs, the reins and verbal commands. This is something that is different for every horse that you ride. You have to adapt your skills to every horse specifically. Everyone is different and respond to different things. Once you learn how to communicate and have a mutual trust between you and the horse there is nothing you cannot accomplish.

 

Growing up I had friends at school and friends that rode horses. I choose to ride my horse and travel to compete. A lot of my school friends didn’t understand why I wanted to be outside working so hard to take care of a “stinky” animal as they put it. As I grew into my teenage years I had a lot to lose if I got into trouble or didn’t keep my grades up. I would lose being able to ride my horses and compete. If I got in trouble my sisters got to ride my horse and I had to watch them compete, as everyone knows its torture to watch your siblings do something you’re not allowed to do. This was my motivation to stay out of trouble and get good grades. While I was trying to stay out of trouble and keep my grades up my friends were not. They would simply get grounded. Then when that was over they would do it again. I realized that theses “friends” were not the people I needed in my life. I choose to stick with my horses. By the time graduation rolled around I was the only one of my 5 “best friends” throughout school that graduated from high school. I could have chosen a very different path in my life but because of my horses. I think I have done pretty well for myself so far.

 

            Learning to ride horse has shaped me into the person I am today. You never truly stop learning to ride. There are always new techniques to learn or skills to perfect. I know that I will never stop ridding or learning. The people you meet along the way are like nothing you have ever experienced. They are some lifelong friends that I could never replace. Ridding has become my outlet. It allows me to think, to bond and to love without fear of judgment or harshness. I wouldn’t trade my horses for anything. I am thankful that I learned to ride, it shaped me into the person I am today.

Which Ed. Nar did you like most?

I enjoyed reading "How I learned to program computers" the most. I liked it because Feross used visual examples. this helped me see his progression. I liked reading the other Ed. Nar.'s however Feross was talking about something I didn't know anything about and was able to not necessarily makes sense to me but keep me wanting to read more. He was able to touch on the technical part of programing Computers but also the life lessons he learned and how it changed and effected him. He covered a huge span of his life in such small amount of time. He realized what was important to point out and left out the smaller details that might have confused people that do not know anything about computers. this is what I enjoyed about reading Feross's blog.

Blog narratives vs. Print narratives

After reading all the Ed. Nar.'s I prefer the blog ones. they tend to be lighter and have a comical feel to them. along with facts. They print book ED. Nar's are not as easy to read. We are only reading a selection from the book not the whole thing. So I found it hard to get into when we were only coming in on part of it. The tone of the Print books tended to be more serious and have a dark tone. Where as the blogs are shorter and we are getting to read the whole thing. They styles all varied in the blogs but I enjoyed the differences. However the print Nar's were all the same style telling us about a hardship and then how they over came. The print narratives were good but I feel I  .  Would have enjoyed them more if were to read the whole book. I also didnt enjoy how the prints had  such a heavy tone to them. The blog narratives were more light and were able to show more of the personality.  I just prefer reading things that are more light l.

Swim Suits

A swim suit is an article or articles of clothing that most people wear when the weather becomes warm. When people hear the word "swim suits" most of us think of bikinis, but that's not the case. Swim suits have become very universal and very fashionable. Everyone can find a swimsuit that fits and shows their personality. Swim suits aren't restricted by colors, they come in any color you could imagine and they come in all sorts of styles, from one pieces to speedos. There is uniqueness that can show everyone's personality making them feeling equally comfortable and confident.

With all the unique styles available it is not surprising that swim suites come in many different ways. Even though they all look different they are made out of the same material. They can come in any pattern, color or design imaginable. You can get one in a almost any style you want. However the most common styles are bikini style or one piece. It just depends on how much skin you’re willing to show. All swim suits have the same purpose, which is covering your naughty bits. This is the common goal of all swim suits.  Even though covering is important fashion is becoming just as important.

Swim suits are very fashionable for nowadays. We can say in the fashion world swim suits are a big part in summer season. For women, swim suits come in varieties and women enjoy choosing them. For instance, we hardly see women wear the same style of swim suits on the beach, unless they buy it from the same store. Swim suits can give confidence to whoever is wearing it. Yet, it may motivate someone to be in good shape to wear it too. Swim suits are not just made to be stylish; it can warm our bodies when we are swimming. For example, no one would like to swim naked in the cold water. They would rather wear it even if it is just a bikini. Swim suits could be fashionable in the sports world too. They pay a lot of attention to what design of swim suit is great for sports. It’s not just about looking good it’s about expressing your personality as well.

I feel a swim suit can almost always shape ones first impression of an individual. For instance someone wearing a swimsuit with polka dots or bright colors may have a very open and upbeat personality where as someone wearing a swimsuit in one solid color might be more reserved. I feel the same goes for a 1 piece or a 2 piece suit. A 1 piece might reveal that you prefer to keep to yourself or that you are guarded. A 2 piece in my opinion states that you are more comfortable with yourself and may be more open or comfortable with your surroundings.  Although swim suites do many different things we can all agree on one thing that there is one for everyone.

How I learned to Love traveling Solo

After reading "How I Learned to love traveling solo" I really enjoyed reading this blog. It was a good example of a ED. narrative and blog. She used a list method to point out some tips but she also gave personal reasons why she came to this conclusion. She made it very informational and enjoyable to read. She made funny and relatable. I know it wasn't an essay but she was able to persuade me to want to travel solo. this was a good example of how you give reason and then show support or evidence on how or why you believe this. I overall enjoyed reading this reading.

How am I using blog post and sample nar's to generate ideas and test for the first formal paper?

After reading the first blog reading i discovered that i liked how Feross wrote and kept your attention. He talked about something i didn't know anything about yet i wasn't bored i enjoyed reading it. he told us about how he learned to program computers however he did not give us a step by step he gave us an over view of the details but a lot on how he changed and what it taught him as a person. this is what i want to do in my paper. I mean we learn things every day. every thing we do is an educational experience however its why it was so important to us and what it taught us and how that affect our life's that people want to read about. The blogging has started me thinking about what i want to write about. I have realized there are a lot of things i have learned that are significant however there are few that are the most important to me. I want to write about something that affect me for my whole life or will affect me for my whole life. So its a toss up between Learning to ride a horse or learning to become a certified nursing assistant. i am going to map my ideas and see which one comes together the best and go from there.

what was your most important educational experience and why?

My most important educational experience is learning to ride a horse. i started ridding when i was five years old. It wasn't easy. people often say the hardest part of learning to ride a horse is the ground. Its true. I have fallen off, gotten bucked of and hit the ground more times then i can count. a lot of times with the horse landing on top of me or stepping on me. learning to ride taught me that even if you hit the ground you get up and dust your self off and keep going. this taught me to persevere through everything. When learning to ride a horse you have to build a trust between you and the horse, its a lot to ask. you have to trust something that cannot talk to you and has a mind of its own. you have to learn to communicate with the horse through your legs and the reins. i know how to understand my horse. we are able to know what the other one is trying to do. that's why we are successful in competition and working together.
My dad always told me growing up if your not broken, bleeding a lot or dying dust off and get back on. some people may view that as harsh to say to a child however hes right. it taught me to be tough. something you need to be if you are going to ride a horse. just because life trips you up, hurts you and things fall apart you get back on. Having horses growing up taught me to work extremely hard. i had to get up and feed every morning and evening and i didn't eat until after my animals did. I learned a strong work ethic early in life. I believe that that is why now i work so hard and never quit. Even though i have been ridding horses for almost 20 years I am still learning. I learn new skills every day. Every horse i ride teaches me something new. Ridding has taught me patients and great kindness. Horses are huge animals and you cannot force them into doing anything so you have to find a way to work with them. all of theses skills have come in to play in my life and been extremely helpful. I think that's why i have chosen to go to school and  become a nurse. i will always have horses and ride for the rest of my life. they bring me so much happiness. Its a calming thing for me. you never really stop learning to ride you just improve your skills more and more over the years. Its strange to think about it but its true. I can always become a better rider. There are so many things to learn when you learn to ride a horse. you must have no fear that is the first thing. Its hard no to be afraid when you are on top of a 1200 pound animal some times going 40 miles per hour. things can go wrong. they have for me. i have been trampled and crushed and drug down the arena but i always get back on My most important educational experience was larding to ride a horse because It has taught me many life lessons a skills. I started ridding when i was five years old. I learned to balance and trust the horse. it wasn't easy. people that  ride horse will tell you "the hardest part of ridding is the ground". Its true. Ridding a horse takes great patients and kindness. You have to also trust a huge 1200 pound animal that goes 40 miles per hour. Its hard to do. I have learned to communicate with my horse. this means i can tell her what to do with my legs and the reins. I also can understand her. She will try and tell me things. i have to observe her movements and her attitude and i can under stand.
Learning to ride changed me a lot. I think that having horses kept me out of trouble and gave me more to loose. I never wanted to be in trouble and not be able to ride. I think i would have easily gone down the wrong path if i didn't have my horses. The people i was hanging out with in Jr. high school were not the best. i had to make a choice keep hanging out with those friends or keep ridding my horses. i choose my horses. All three of those girls that were my best friends before i graduated high school had been to jail had at least one child and were doing a lot of drugs. I could have turned out a lot different then i am now. i have my horses and ridding to thank for that. This is why learning to ride is so important to me. i learned to ride but it also taught me how to be a better person. How to work hard, care about people and animals, have compassion, keep trying, and observea try again. In order to truly love ridding a horse you have to have a huge passion for it. Which i do.

First paper

I am learning a lot facing our first paper. I have learned how i want to write and what i want to write about. The readings we did even though all about an educational experience not all as interesting as the others. they all are written in different ways. I will choose to make mine interesting and captivating.

Malcolm X vs. Mike Rose

After reading both selections I found them very interesting. both selections highlighted how they both had very difficult things to overcome. They had to persevere and overcome difficult things in order to be successful and achieve there education. Even though very different situations they both had to fight stereotypes to become educated. Malcolm X was in prison and couldn't even read or write and decided to use a dictionary to teach him self. After that he then began to read and learn about history and slavery in particular. Where as Mike Rose parent were trying to give him a better education by sending him across town to a better school. Unfortunately when getting there he was lumped into a group of people that were not getting a good education and just pushed through the system. He figured out how to over come and get his education. in many ways they were the same however they differ in just as many.

For my essay I will keep in mind how these men used a time that they had to over come something great and showed us they over came something. this captivated the reader and keep us interested in what they were talking about. this is a great narrative because they draw you in and illustrate there struggles and how they over came and learned something.

"how i learned to program computers" vs "how i learned to live google free"

After reading both "how I learned to program computers" and "how I learned to live Google free" I enjoyed reading "How I learned to program computers" I felt that this one was easier to understand. I understood the Google one however it was hard to fallow along. I don't know much about computers and how to de program things and his article was hard to understand. The one about programing computers he used good examples and visual aides and didn't go to in depth with the details and allowed anyone to be able to read his article and understand.

I think that for out first paper I will take a lot from theses articles. I enjoyed how Feross showed a huge gape of time and his process learning in a article. He was able to show us everything important and how it affected and change him with out getting to in to the specifics and confusing us. he was able to write towards a broad audience. these are things that I find helpful and take with me when writing my first paper.

for this paper in order to be successful I will make sure to choose something that I can give good details about and explain how it affected me and how it changed my outlook on life either for the good or the bad. I am looking forward to writing this paper and I have a topic in mind already!

After 3 days of logging on to my blog I am still trying to figure it out. I feel like I am getting the hang of it. this is definitely different. This is the first time I have had to do this for a class. It should be interesting to say the least. Looking forward to trying something new.
